Your Nervous System Didn’t Consent to This

We wake up to breaking news alerts before we even get out of bed.

Earthquakes. Shootings. Wildfires. War.

Then we pour coffee and try to respond to emails like nothing's wrong.

We hustle through work calls while doom-scrolling headlines in the background.

We eat lunch at our desks.

We panic at the thought of not answering a text.

And by the time we collapse into bed, our nervous system is completely fried—still buzzing from everything it had to hold without any real release.

No wonder we feel like we’re always on edge.

So how do we find any semblance of peace in a world that demands our constant attention?

We opt out. Not from caring. Not from being informed. But from letting it swallow us whole.

We choose boundaries with our screens.

We practice nervous system regulation—not just for the sake of calm, but because we’re not machines. We don’t owe the world our burnout just to prove we’re paying attention.

It’s okay to pause.

It’s okay to miss a headline. To not respond right away. To walk outside barefoot and feel the earth under your feet instead of staring into the void of a glowing rectangle.

This isn’t about ignoring the world’s pain.

It’s about remembering that you’re not supposed to carry it all alone. You’re still human. And that humanity needs tending to.

So if your nervous system feels like it’s screaming for space lately—listen.

Unplug. Rest. Grieve. Breathe.

And remind yourself: you were never meant to process it all.
